There is a great diversity of South Asian languages and their numerous variations are often inadequately documented. The "Journal of South Asian Linguistics" (JSAL) has the goal of making this diversity more visible. The individual articles highlight aspects of e.g. phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. Research spans the geographical area from Afghanistan to India and the Maldives.

Editors of the online journal are Sameer and Dowla Khan (Reed College) and Emily Manetta (University of Vermont). On the part of the University of Konstanz, linguist Miriam Butt supports the project as lead consultant.
